Michael Begun

 
Chairman, Managing Partner of CM Capital Investments  
   
Michael Begun is the Chairman and Managing Partner of CM Capital Investments and is responsible for deal flow in information technology, e-Commerce and telecommunications. Michael has more than 30 years of technical, management and general business expertise in the data communications and telecommunications industries.
 
   
He began his career in the data communications industry spending eight (8) years with Digital Equipment Corporation working as a Software Engineer and then moving to a position as Network Architect. In this position, during the late 1970's, he was a member of a small team responsible for the design and definition of the communications protocols of Digital's Network Architecture, DECnet. He was involved in the technical collaboration between DEC, Intel and Xerox Parc which led to the definition of the Ethernet in 1980.
 
   
In 1981 Michael co-founded Technology Concepts, Inc. in Sudbury MA. This company developed internetworking software products for the then emerging market for Unix based computers. In 1985 the company developed the first implementation of telephone signalling software (Signalling System 7) for use by general-purpose computers to communicate directly with telephone switches. This work was done for Bellcore and deployed by the Regional Bell Operating Companies throughout the United States. Following on the success of this project the company was purchased by Bell Atlantic in 1986.
 
   
Michael continued to manage this company for Bell Atlantic for two years before moving on and relocating to Australia in 1990, the time of the Bell Atlantic acquisition of Telecom New Zealand. Upon arrival in Australia Michael began consulting to Bell Atlantic International working on M & A transactions in the Asia Pacific region. In 1992 he was asked to run their Australia operations. He took the position of CEO of Pacific Star, which was a joint venture with Telecom New Zealand. Under Michael's stewardship, Pacific Star grew from a start up to revenues of over $250m.
 
   
In 1996 Michael left Bell Atlantic and became focused on start-up opportunities which led to his involvement in CM Capital Investments.
